E is for E Words Without an X

Dear English Speaking World:

The words are ‘especially’ and ‘escape.’ I have taken the History of the English Language at the graduate level and I can ascertain that there is no linguistic rule for an invisible or implied X. So please stop saying ‘exspecially’ and ‘exscape.’

XO

A

PS. What word’s mispronunciation makes you crazy?

  1. Haha! This is HUGE problem in Memphis. It’s just the slang here. Also, “ax” instead of “ask” is a massive problem. And people using “it’s” when they should be saying “there are.” Example: “It’s just so many people in the city who can’t use proper English.”
